What is Dermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is one of the most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedures performed today. The skin is instantly rejuvenated by means of mechanical skin exfoliation without the use of chemicals or lasers and it’s virtually painless. It offers a modern and effective alternative to chemical and laser peels and can be combined with other treatments to help achieve the desired results. It’s most commonly used to treat the face and neck and immediately restores smoother looking skin and reduces the appearance of superficial wrinkles and scars, sun damage, large pores, acne and age spots.
Microdermabrasion is performed by passing a hand held device that emits a highly controlled pressurized flow of fine, medical grade crystals over the skin. These crystals, delivered at high velocity onto the skin surface are immediately vacuumed away, taking the top-most layer of dead skin cells with it. Rather like sandblasting the face, the crystals exfoliate the skin’s outer layer, improving the tone and texture of the skin and also revealing the new, living skin cells that are soft and smooth. Following microdermabrasion the skin is in a better condition to absorb anti-ageing and acne creams. At the same time the underlying epidermis is also stimulated by the treatment and this promotes new collagen, thickening the dermis and improving the resistance to the effects of ageing.
How safe is it?
As the treatment only causes superficial injury to the skin, the risk of scarring and uneven pigmentation following microdermabrasion is extremely low in comparison with other resurfacing techniques, making it a safe and effective treatment for any skin type.
